What Has A Greater Capacity

What has a greater capacity? A small mountain stream or a big river like the Mississippi River?
by

Because capacity = the total amount of sediment a stream can transport.

More energy as higher velocity influences the amount of sediment that a body of water can carry. However, a large river like the Mississippi which is not only volumetrically massive, but also with a good rate of flow... the Mississippi definitely wins.

Big rivers for sure. They carried millions of tons of sediment. Evidence: their deltas.

obviously whichever has the greater channel surface area therefore more discharge will carry the most sediment. Younger rivers wont carry a huge amount as they dont have enough energy to lift and carry sediment.
