Wasatch Hikers Weekly Wednesday Evening Hike to Indian Trail, Cold Water Canyon
Description: The trail climbs from the 4600-foot parking lot and switchbacks up the south slope of Ogden Canyon and the most difficult part of the hike. The ascent levels off a little bit as it follows the creek on the east side of the canyon. The Cold Water Canyon trail takes off after 0.7mis and continues up the canyon on the east side of the creek. The Indian trail continues its climb on the west side of the creek and then turns west leaving the canyon. It continues its climb to the high point of the trail at 4750-foot elevation, where a shelter is located. At the Yurt, we will likely rest and enjoy the view of the star studded sky and the canyon. We will then begin our return trip.
The trail was built using the approximate location of a prehistoric route developed by Native Americans as the primary route up Ogden Canyon to Ogden's Hole (Ogden Valley). There are a few primitive camping sites along the creek, including the remains of a Forest Service campground and a Civilian Conservation Corp camp.
