August has arrived, the ?dog? days of summer. As such, the Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau is encouraging vacationers with pets to help their trip live up to the title.

?There are lots of pet-friendly options for animal lovers looking to travel to Yosemite and the southern gateway region,? said Jarrod Lyman, director of media for the YSVB. ?Hotels, attractions and more offer ways guests can travel with their furry friends.?

The Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau?s website, http://www.YosemiteThisYear.com, has a special page highlighting all the pet friendly lodging and activities in the area. Everything from campgrounds to resorts is outlined at properties throughout Madera County on up into Yosemite.

?We have a great selection of lodging options for guests traveling with pets,? Lyman said. ?If you want to take a vacation to Bass Lake, for example, numerous vacation homes there are pet friendly? he said.

Options include the cabins at Miller?s Landing and The Forks Resort. The Pines Resort on Bass Lake is also pet friendly.

For visitor wanting a more secluded stay, The cabins of Far Meadow, located in the Sierra National Forest, offer quiet seclusion, proximity to Yosemite, and of course, plenty of room for your favorite furry friend to run around.

For camping enthusiasts, Yosemite South KOA welcomes pets at all campsites. They even boast a dog-walking trail to and from the clubhouse.

Inside Yosemite, many of the vacation rental properties of The Redwoods in Yosemite are pet friendly, as is the Tenaya Lodge just south of the entrance. The Tenaya even offers special packages that will leave the pooch just as pampered as his human companions.

Guests looking for a romantic, bed and breakfast location have options as well; six options to be exact.

?Many people feel it wouldn?t be a proper trip if they left a beloved family member at home, and many of our B&B?s recognize that,? Lyman said.

The award-winning Apple Blossom Inn, for example, allows pets in the Red Delicious room and Golden Delicious suite - they both have private entrances so don't go through the common eating areas.

Another popular Bed and Breakfast, Vulture's View, welcomes pets and is even offers an exclusive special: Book 3 nights and get 50% off the 3rd night. Guests must mention ?black and white cat? when making reservation.

The Holiday Inn Express in Chowchilla welcomes pets, and offers a full trail for walks, while the historic Sierra Sky Ranch resort in Oakhurst welcomes pets. The hotel even has several feline ambassadors on property that greet guests as they arrive.

/>Visitors won?t have to worry about leaving their pet at the hotel either, as many of the attractions welcome animals.

The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, for example, which runs historic steam engines on a 4 mile journey through the Sierra National Forest just outside Yosemite, welcomes all friendly dogs on the trip.

Cru, Fasi Estate and Ficklin Vineyards wineries all welcome animals to their tasting rooms. Music lovers wanting to take in one of the free concerts each Friday, both Appellation California and Yosemite Lakes Park welcome dogs at their free music events.
