About the Retreat
We will meet at Juneau's only retreat center, a natural setting unrivaled by any in the world, near the Medenhall Glacier and Tongas Mountains. our cabins and spectacular meeting lodge look out over Lynn Canal and Benjamin Island, one of the largest sea lion rookeries in southeast Alaska. The waters are teeming with whales, porpoise, seals, river otters and spawning salmon. The surrounding forest is home to bear, caribou, moose, deer, and bald eagles.

Take this rare opportunity to live in community, listening to the ancient stories of creation and the living spirits of this pristine land. Learn practices of shamanic health and healing, drumming and singing.
Brant Secunda will teach us how to recognize and approach places of power in nature, and help us bring that power into our lives. He will show us how to listen more closely to our dreams so we may use them to bring a sense of purpose and balance into our lives.

The Huichols believe every human being can learn to walk the shamanic path. As you participate in this age-old tradition, you too will begin to remember the sacred- ness of your life and understand our shared responsibility as human beings living on the earth. In this way we can inhabit the earth with gentleness and respect.

Accommodations
Most participants choose to camp and enjoy the feeling of oneness with the natural surroundings. Magnificent indoor suites and beauitiful shared rooms are also available (limited availability, so register soon). Cabins along the river offer an alternate option for those looking for indoor comfort with that connection to nature.

Meals & Food
Our chefs prepare a variety of flavorful dishes ranging in cuisines, each making for a healthy, balanced and delightful meal. Most meals are vegetarian, though salmon will be served at this retreat due to it's sacredness in the region.

Beside shooting pristine mountains reflected at dawn, well explore the alpine hanging gardens of Logan Pass, waterfalls under Reynolds Mountains, photograph Mountain Goats and Big Horn Sheep at Hidden Lake Pass and shoot well known and of the beaten path waterfalls and wild overlooks. As always, there will be ample field instruction, critiques and tons of inspiration to go around.

Basic Itinerary: We meet at noon on Sunday August 19th for a meet and greet followed by lunch in the town of Saint Mary. After that we will spend the remainder of the day in the field until after sunset. In the afternoon, we will allow for a three hour break to catch up on sleep, eating and digital processing and back-up. Each later afternoon we will be back in the field until after sunset. On Thursday, the workshop will end after a sunrise and morning shoot at around 10am.

In addition, we will try to be as flexible as possible in order to have the best photo opportunities during the 10 days.

Fitness Level
While most shooting locations can be reached by road, we will do some hiking during this workshop. The longest hike is to Hidden Lake Overlook, 3 miles round trip with an elevation gain of around 600 feet. This the Rocky mountains, so even short walks can be steep and rocky.

Curriculum
Joe will teach and demonstrate a variety of techniques that will allow you to advance both your technical skills and artistic vision. We focus on a number of professional field techniques to help you create dramatic and powerful nature images, working with dramatic light, including sunrise and sunset; the fundamentals of powerful compositions; and abstract techniques for creating artistic photographs.
